How To Help Your Animal With Acupressure

Have you heard of acupressure? Or do you think it maybe the same as some other therapies? Although there's similarities to some others, it is actually different. And also can make a big difference to wellbeing for your pet!

First of all see below, how it differs from a couple of other therapies that it's often confused with - acupuncture and myotherapy.

How Is It Similar to Veterinary Acupuncture?

Acupressure works by applying finger pressure to specific points on the body. This helps to stimulate natural repair processes. It's a similar principle to acupuncture. But whereas acupuncture uses needles. Acupressure doesn't and is non-invasive.

Acupuncture can help injury or illness. But Acupressure aims to maintain well being. This is important for your horse, dog, cat or other animal. Feeling more relaxed and less stressed, cannot be under-estimated in the difference it makes to the quality of life for your animal.

Is Acupressure The Same as Trigger Point Myotherapy?

The theories behind acupressure and trigger- point massage are different.

Acupressure originates from the Chinese meridian theory (as does acupuncture). That energy flows around the body, and when vital energy, or chi, becomes blocked by injury or illness. Its functional flow is inhibited. So acupuncture theory says that specific areas on the skin relate to specific parts of the body. This is through a system of channels. And so these channels are kept open to maintain energy flow. By applying pressuring of these points.
